Do I Live In "The Home Of The Brave" or a Haunted House Built On Fear?
I'm tired of living in fear and ready to be brave ... I hope you are, too
.As I write this, my husband is watching MSNBC. I’m wearing headphones and listening to music to drown out the “news.” Not because I don’t care about what’s happening, but because I do. Discussions about how bad things are and how the people causing or allowing those terrible things to happen benefit from doing so is not good for my mental health.
I’m tired of letting fear, despair, and outrage hijack my brain and nervous system. I’m tired of complaining about what’s wrong with the world without finding ways to make it better.
One of the ways I hope to make the world better is to have conversations like the one I’m hosting this Sunday on Zoom.
Honest conversations that acknowledge current realities but also:
Focus on how we can solve problems instead of who caused them
Help us understand each other’s perspectives instead of attacking them
Foster connections and collaborations that lead to positive changes
I’d love to have that kind of conversation with you and anyone else who shares the vision of a new dawn Amanda Gorman expressed so beautifully in her poem:
The new dawn blooms as we free it
For there is always light,
if only we’re brave enough to see it
If only we’re brave enough to be it
And whether or not you participate in Sunday’s Zoom conversation, you’re welcome to join my online community of light-bearers
