Tapping Into Hope, Peace, and Self-Confidence
One way to feel better without pretending everything is or will be fine
I HATE being told, “Don’t worry; everything will be fine.” Obviously, that is bullshit! No one can guarantee what the future holds or control all of the variables that shape it. Furthermore, the belief that everything will be fine is unrealistic. Maybe some things will be, but certainly not all things.
I used to have unrealistic expectations about tapping, a practice I now use every day to feel more confident and less anxious. I was sure I would go from being constantly worried about the future to being totally calm and relaxed after a few minutes of tapping daily for a week or so. Some people do experience rapid and dramatic shifts like that, and I tend to be an overachiever, so naturally I expected miraculous results with minimal effort.
Alas, my anxiety didn’t go away that quickly. I stopped tapping shortly after I began and concluded that tapping worked well for some people but did nothing for me.
Later, after hearing therapists and others talk about the remarkable effectiveness of tapping, I decided to give it another try. I’m glad I did, because tapping has not only reduced my anxiety, it has also increased my self-esteem and improved my mental health in other ways.
I use a wonderful tapping app that includes hundreds of guided tapping sessions, five audiobooks, daily affirmations, and lots of other features. I highlighted some of my favorites in last week’s post:
If you tap, how has it changed your life? Is there a specific issue, emotion, or negative belief that tapping has helped you handle better?
